Context / Contexte

CERFACS is a research center with seven shareholders (CNES, EADS, EDF, Météo-France, ONERA, Safran and Total). In the frame of its activity in Computational Fluid Dynamics, CERFACS develops advanced numerical tools to help in the design of both aircraft and gas turbines. More precisly, the CFD team co-develops the CFD code elsA (jointly with ONERA, the owner of the code) that is used by leading companies in the field of Aeronautics (Airbus, Snecma, Turbomeca, Eurocopter) and energy supply (EDF).

CERFACS is also one of the world leaders in the domain of High Performance Computing dedicated to complex flow simulations and it has access to most powerful computers in the world. The CFD team of CERFACS (70 people) applies its skills in the field of unsteady flows (gas turbine, aircraft), acoustics, combustion, etc.

Description / Description

In order to test the engine installation on an aircraft, wind tunnel models are equipped with Turbine Propulsion Simulation (TPS) that simulate the flow going through an engine. More information on TPS can be found on http://windtunnel.onera.fr/propulsion-simulation. The work will consist in the numerical simulation and analysis of the flow around a TPS. The goal is to help assessing the quality of experiment.

This position requires a PhD in the field of fluid mechanics with a solid background in CFD (engineers with a first experience are also potential candidates). Qualities needed for this position are an interest for applied research and the use of numerical methods to solve industrial problems, independence and a good capability to integrate a team composed of senior researchers and PhD students.
