Position details

Combustion noise (SNECMA/CERFACS/TURBOMECA/CEE)
TrainingComputational Fluid Dynamics - Combustion

Required Education / Niveau requis

Master 2

From / Date de début

début 2013

Duration / Durée

6 mois

Context / Contexte

Gas turbine engines make noise. This is a major issue in many cases and it must be understood and controlled. One solution is to use simulation methods and this is a task performed by CERFACS for SNECMA and TURBOMECA using high-fidelity Large Eddy Simulation codes on massively parallel machines (1000 to 64 000 cores). One important contribution to combustion noise is 'indirect noise' where pockets of hot gases propagate through the turbine and create noise.
CERFACS with SNECMA and TURBOMECA is involved in multiple European and national projects on indirect combustion noise and the trainee will be associated to the European project RECORD. A PhD position on the same topic will be opened in September 2013.

Description / Description

The trainee will learn high fidelity methods for flows and combustion. His work will then focus on the transmission of waves through nozzles (the turbine stages). The work will take place in Toulouse, Meteo France campus.
