Context / Contexte
Noise emissions near airports become more and more severe and any industry needs to introduce numerical computations to replace real-life tests. Building schemes / boundary conditions dedicated to aeroacoustic isn’t easy since quantities fluctuations to capture are very small (some Pascal for the pressure with a mean value about 101 000 Pascal), unsteady but their effects must be understood in the whole computational domain. Finally, one looks for high-order low-dissipation low-dispersion schemes. In parallel, boundary conditions must account for characteristic waves entering and leaving the domain. Cerfacs has implemented and validated in elsA kernel (from ONERA) all numerical techniques dedicated to the computation of jets for aeroacoustic.
Cerfacs is a partner of the European project AeroTranet-2 which goal is to build, to validate and to promote the usage of simulation and post-treatment aeroacoustic tools for turbofan. We recall that a turbofan produces two coaxial jets, the inner one is hot and shocked and the outer one is cold.
Description / Description
Within AeroTranet-2 project, Cerfacs must perform a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of a turbofan and must extract from the computation steady and unsteady data. In parallel, C. Airiau from IMFT will work with another PhD student on tools to analyse unsteady phenomena driving noise production. The goal is therefore to make both PhD students work together on 1) the computation and 2) the post-treatment. In particular, a post-treatment based on Proper Orthogonal Decomposition will be analyzed.
We look for a student with a strong desire to learn aeroacoustic. A good background on physics and (basic) mathematics is needed. The student who will be chosen for the position mustn't have a French diploma. French candidates can apply to the position but their CV will be proposed to another (not French) partner.
The student will work in the CFD team and in the AAM group. The work is therefore done in an integrated framework with many relations with other people involved in aeroacoustic at Cerfacs. The student will also participate in establishing strong relations with Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse and Prof. Christophe Airiau (see http://www.mecanique-energetique.ups-tlse.fr/Airiau.html) .
