Domain decomposition and FETI-DP: an introduction with applications

The Dual-Primal Finite Element Tearing and Interconnecting method (FETI-DP) is a domain decomposition method originally proposed [1] for the parallel solution of large-scale symmetric positive definite systems of
equations arising from the finite element approximation of elliptic partial differential equations in the application field of structural mechanics. The method has since gained popularity due to it's relative simplicity, decent scalability, and extensibility to a variety of other problems.

My seminar will comprise a brief introduction to domain decomposition methods in general and the classical formulation of the FETI-DP method in particular, followed by some recent results demonstrating the performance of an extension of FETI-DP to indefinite systems of equations for two different applications: eigenvalue problems (in the framework of a shift-and-invert solver), and coupled fluid-structure interaction
problems.
