Advanced Algorithms for Data Assimilation

This course begins by reviewing the basics of data assimilation linked to statistical assumptions. Please note that the training course 'Introduction to Data Assimilation' covers this part in detail. Then, the algorithms for variational data assimilation are described from different perspectives such as global optimization, derivative-free optimization, dual formulations and preconditioning. Finally, Ensemble Kalman Filters, diagnostics for assessing the optimality of the optimization system and techniques for modelling prior error covariances are detailed.

Target participants:
This training session is for engineers, physicists, computer scientists
