Introduction to Data Assimilation

This training course aims to present an overview of the applications, objectives and fundamental concepts in data assimilation. First, the main applications to geosciences are described. Then, the vocabulary and the mathematical notion for data assimilation are presented. Finally, the classical algorithms are detailed and illustrated with tutorials on simple examples (BLUE, 3D-VAR, 4D-VAR and KF). The training session 'Advanced algorithms for Data Assimilation' provides additional information from a numerical point of view.

Target participants:
This training session is for engineers, physicists, computer scientists
and numerical analysts wishing to learn the fundamental basics of
data assimilation.

Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of linear algebra and numerical analysis.
