Data assimilation for hydraulics and hydrology
Building up on its expertise in data assimilation in oceanography and neutronics, CERFACS is investigating on the use of data assimilation techniques with hydrology and hydraulic models.
As for the hydraulic part, the project relies, in good part, on the collaboration between CERFACS, SCHAPI (Service Central d'Hydrométéorologie et d'Appui à la prévision des inondations) and Laboratoire National d'Hydraulique et Environnement (LNHE) at EDF R\&D. It also benefits from a considerable expertise on the use of coupling softwares to build up assimilation systems. One objective of the project is to improve hydraulic state simulation and flood forecast with the mono-dimensional code MASCARET. Studies with the three-dimensional code TELEMAC3D also aim at improving the thermohaline state of the Berre basin.
As for the hydrology part, CERFACS collaborates with CNRM, HSM (Hydro Sciences Montpellier) and SISYPHE Mines-Paristech to use data assimilation techniques to improve flood forecast on regional catchments with various simulation code such as MODCOU or ATHYS.
