Software engineer, PALM project
Job offer & Post-Doc ›
Climate Modelling And Global Change - Software development
Required Education / Niveau requis
Master
From / Date de début
september-november 2010
Duration / Durée
18 months
Context / Contexte
Based on the Météo-France site in Toulouse, CERFACS is a private company (société civile) working on numerical simulations and modelling with particular focus on high performance computing. The PALM coupler (www.cerfacs.fr/~palm) has been developed at CERFACS for more than ten years. It was initially designed for the development of modular parallel applications in data assimilation but it has since then been used for every kind of multi-physics coupling in many different domains ranging from oceanography to atmospheric sciences, hydrology, combustion, shape otpimisation, ....
In the context of the relationships with its shareholders and partners in the areo-space community (SAFRAN, CNES and AIRBUS), CERFACS has recently started a collaboration with ONERA to make PALM evolve into a shared tool ready to deal with the future needs in aero-space science and engineering : geometrical methods for mesh projections, interpolation, massively parallel computing, commercial codes coupling, etc. This tool is based on the PALM coupling core and on the geometrical libraries developed and used at ONERA. It is meant to become Open Source in a near future.
Description / Description
The engineer will be hired on a 18 months temporary position to reinforce the development team (2 people at CERFACS, 1 person at ONERA). He'll work on the coupler core, written in C and F90.The position requires a thorough knowledge on high performance scientific computing as obtained through a scientific computing high level training (ENSEEIHT, MATHMECA, ISTIL ...) or equivalent experience. The coupler being based on MPI, the engineer has to be proficient in parallel computing techniques. Notions of aeronautics and computational fluid dynamics (existing software, meshing techniques, visualization tools) will be strongly appreciated. A previous experience (at least 3 years) of software development is mandatory. Familiarity with development tools (autotools, source management, debugging) will be appreciated.
