Abstract

To study deviations of a matrix A of the form A+tE, with E a low rank matrix and t a complex parameter, we have visualised the dependence of the spectrum of A+tE on t. This study has led to new results for the case when t is large. The talk will briefly discuss the homotopic deviation theory. It will give examples of visualisation with MATLAB and with the virtual reality tool COVISE. Finally the new insights will be discussed and also some open questions will be raised.

This is joint work with Francoise Chatelin and with Mikael Dore of the Universite Joseph Fourier of Grenoble. The TTN-team is acknowledged for their support in the use of the COVISE equipment.
