Minutes of the WP3a meeting in Toulouse,
April 16-17, 2002

S. Valcke, 29/04/2002

The meeting took place in CERFACS office in Toulouse. The participants were: from NEC-CCRL, Rene Redler, and Hubert Ritzdorf; from NEC Deutschland, Thomas Schoenemeyer; from SGI Deutschland, Reiner Vogelsang; from FECIT/Fujitsu, Jean Latour and Arnaud Caubel; from CERFACS, Damien Declat and Sophie Valcke; from MPI/M&D, Luis Kornblueh; from IPSL: Jan Polcher and Alexandre Tallec.

General overview of the coupled system

A general overview of the coupled system was first presented by Sophie Valcke and discussed. The proposed architecture which supposes that the model coupling library and model I/O library are merged into one library was accepted. The name of "PRISM System Model Interface Library" (PSMILe) was proposed. This overview will constitute the first section of the ARCDI paragraph detailing the  PRISM coupler. More work to define precisely  the different parts of the coupled system, the content of the different configuration files (PMIOD, SMIOC, and SCC) and to better describe the metadata, their use, and their transfer between the different parts of the system, is clearly needed. A more precise definition of the PSMILe will need strong interactions between WP3a (coupler) and WP4a (I/O). The repartition of work was decided during the joint meeting that took place on Friday, April 19th, 2002.

WP3a proposal for PSMILe routines

WP3a proposal for PSMILe routines was then reviewed.

Review of REDOC II.2 and choices for ARCDI

The list of possible requirements for the three main parts of the PRISM coupler, i.e. the Driver, the Transformer, and the Data Exchange Library (DEL) included in the PRISM System Model Interface Library (PSMILe), were then discussed. Choices on what should be implemented in the PRISM coupler were made. The document describing theses choice will be distributed to the PRISM community and will be the base of the second section of the ARCDI paragrah related to the PRISM coupler.
