HIPERCOMBATS
is a PCI - ESPRIT project funded by the European Commission as a CAPRI project
(Esprit - HPCN contract no EP-9602 CAPRI).
Its main objectives are
- to develop a parallel portable fault tolerance software simulation tool on
high performance computers for the design of two-wheeler suspensions in order
to optimise the dynamic behaviour of new vehicles, based on COMPAMM software,
- to obtain truly interactive response with realistic models of the vehicle dynamics
on a standard network of workstations,
- to port the code on a MPP distributed memory machine for intensive study,
- to develop a module for large parametric studies, allowing to carry out
automatically parallel simulations in a wide range of the vehicle design
parameters,
- to develop a friendly user interface for an easy definition of the design parameter
values and exploitation of the simulation results,
- to make an objective assessment of the vehicle comfort,
- to validate the results of the code with specific experimental test representative of
the vehicle use,
- to reduce the time for suspension design, and so the time to market for new
vehicles, increasing the competitiveness of European industry.
The HlPERCOMBATS subproject is carried out by an international consortium of
three partners with a high degree of complementary expertise. The industrial partner,
which is also the end user, is asking for an interactive software tool to improve the
suspension design of its future two-wheelers. CElT can provide a general purpose
multibody simulation program, which could be a good analysis tool. To turn it into an
interactive design tool, two significant improvements are necessary. First, some new
routines must be included to model the rider, the tire, to evaluate the vehicle comfort
and so on. Second, by means of CERFACS expertise, a high pertormance computing
will be achieved by parallel implementaton on a network of workstation
available at PlAGGlO.
