WakeNet Job report

. Work package 1 - Multifunction analysis

The final report of task 1-1 " Report on Multifunction requirements " is ready to be issued in October 1998. This document will be the result of a user survey (Aircraft manufacturers, Operators, Pilots, Airports, Official Authorities).

A prioritisation of applications, taking into account the operational needs of the users and the technical feasibility of a future multifunction equipment has been done.

The task 1.2 " Equipment preliminary definition " will start since the task 1-1 report will be issued.

. Workpackage 2 - Demonstrator

Task 2-1 " Demonstrator development ", based on a 2 µm lidar, is well running and first ground tests will be performed between November 1998 and January 1999.

. Workpackage 3 - Techniques and Technologies

Task 3-1 about crystal lasers, Fiber optics, and optical system design, is well running.

Task 3-2 concerns wake vortex simulations and is near to be completed.

Task 3-3, dedicated to Processing Algorithms, has shown, linked to task 3-2 results, the identification of wake vortices with airborne and ground based MFLAME system.

. Workpackage 4 - Operational aspects

Task 4-1, Severity factor definition, was planned from September 1998 and is presently ahead of schedule.
