1 Topic of the meeting:
This first Workshop will review the problems and the ongoing research. The workshop intends to focus on the (practical) relations between the activities in the various areas where the wake vortex problem is of concern. The program should be beneficial and attractive for participants from all WakeNet sections. Hence one should not concentrate on in depth technical studies that can only be understood by a small group of specialists. Instead reviews are needed to present critical aspects of the wake vortex problem from the understanding and prevention of wake vortices up to its effects on safety and airport operations. If at the end of the meeting the various disciplines have obtained a better view of what are still open questions and what is required from each other to solve the problem, one can be satisfied. A preliminary and tentative program is shown in the Annex.
2 Authors
For each of the reviews a suitable author is to be found. Note that a review is not what has been done or achieved at ones own Institute or Company, but the state of the art, open questions, new trends, recent achievements in that particular field outside ones own working place. Each Section Co-ordinator is asked to contribute to this review or to find an other suitable candidate. Note that invited speakers will have to be paid out of the budget of the respective section co-ordinator. It is suggested that the European programs will be presented by their co-ordinator or a representative.
3 Participation and Cost Reimbursement
The Workshop is open to partners from other European programs on wake vortex research and anyone else within the EC who is interested in the topic, notably the WakeNet Interest Groups.. A maximum of 85 persons can be accommodated. If more persons are interested to participate, the Program Committee will make a selection. WakeNet Interest Groups that already participated have in that case a preference.
Participation and cost reimbursement can be as follows:
- WakeNet partners: hotel and travel costs out of ones own WakeNet budget
- Invited speakers: travel costs and hotel costs out of the budget from the respective Section co-ordinator
- Representatives of Interest Groups and other EC programs: at ones own expenses
- Representatives of the EC (at ones own expenses
Note that WakeNet partners have their own budget. See also the note "WakeNet: ORGANISATION AND COMMUNICATION", point 5: Financial Matters.
4 Publications
The Workshop will be informal to stimulate information exchange. Each of the reviewers is asked to bring sufficient copies of a hand-out of the review. The hand-outs, together with the evaluators remarks and a summary of the discussions and conclusions will be used as the basis of the Technical Progress Report.
5 Organising Committee and local arrangements
The organising Committee is formed by the WakeNet Co-ordinating panel and Yves Aurenche who will be the local co-ordinator for ONERA. Bram Elsenaar will have the overall co-ordination.
6 Application and hotel reservations (see Application form)
The Section Co-ordinators are invited to distribute this information on the Workshop and Application Forms to those that might be interested . Information can also be found on the WakeNet Internet Site http://aton.cerfacs.fr/~wakenet. The filled-in forms should be returned to the WakeNet Information Manager A. Elsenaar. A clearance is required to enter ONERA and all necessary information has to be provided on the Application Form. ONERA will provide a name with suggested hotels. However, participants have to make hotel reservations themselves.
