Information on the Second WakeNet Workshop
"Prediction of Far Field Vortex Location and Decay"
to be held at DLR, Oberpfaffenhofen (close to Munich)

Tuesday October 12, 1999, from 9.00 15.00 h
1 WakeNet
WakeNet is a thematic network of the 4th FrameWork Aeronautics Programme of the European Commission. Its aim is to stimulate information exchange between all concerned with safety aspects and research for wake vortices.
WakeNet runs an internet site (http://aton.cerfacs.fr/~wakenet) and organises Workshops.
2 Information on the meeting:
The first Workshop was held December 1-2, 1998 on Wake Vortex Research in a broad sense. This time the workshop will concentrate on the prediction of far field vortex location and decay. However this will be done in a broad perspective including physics, numerical modelling, measurements to validate these models and implications for Air Traffic Management. Specialists in the various areas will contribute. At this particular occasion there will be invited speakers from the USA, Canada en (hopefully) Russia. A preliminary and tentative program is shown in the Annex.
3 Participation
The Workshop is open to partners from other European programs on wake vortex research and anyone else who is interested in the topic, notably the WakeNet Interest Groups.
4 Publication
The Workshop will be informal to stimulate information exchange. Each of the authors is asked to bring sufficient copies of a hand-out of the review. The hand-outs, together with the remarks of an evaluator and a summary of the discussions and conclusions will be used as the basis of the yearly Technical Progress Report of WakeNet.
5 Organising Committee and local arrangements
Alex Corjon (CERFACS), Frank Holzaepfel (DLR) and Bram Elsenaar (NLR) form the Organising Committee. Frank Holzaepfel will also be responsible for the local arrangements.
6 Application and hotel reservation
Applications can be made by returning the attached Application Form to Frank Holzaepfel, DLR. Information can also be found on the WakeNet Internet Site http://aton.cerfacs.fr/~wakenet. Participants have to make hotel reservations themselves, details are to be found in the attachment. Details on transportation will be forwarded to you after receipt of the application form. The meeting will take place at DLR, Oberpfaffenhofen that can be reached within 60 minutes from the Central Train Station in Munich.
